Walkie-Talkies: Range
One of the questions that we at walkie-talkies.com are asked is "How far can my walkie talkie transmit?" many retailers will claim that their products can reach amazing distances, often over 20 miles. In Ideal conditions the furthest that a hand portable can transmit clearly is around 2 miles with a clear line of sight. This range is decreased by terrain, bad weather and items like trees and buildings being in the way of the transmitter.
How to increase your range.
There are several different ways to extend the range of your radio, these include:
-
Holding the radio at arms length to prevent your body from blocking the radio waves.
- Transmitting from a high location.
- using a larger antenna.
- using a repeater system to relay your transmission.
- For hand portable radios try using our simplex repeater
